Data source & provenance

Snapshot vs live

Theatre profiles, now-playing lists, and showtime listings are a stable layer captured at build time — each seats-remaining count is stamped "as of" its capture, a useful signal but never a real-time guarantee. Per-screening seat maps are a live layer: for near-term, reserved-seating, non-sold-out sessions the seat map is refreshed on a short cycle and stamped with its capture time; outside that window a page shows the auditorium layout plus the last snapshot and points you to cineplex.com for live seat-level availability. The site never presents a stale seat map as current.

Methodology

Every page is a static document generated from the captured data: showtimes come straight from the published sessions, seat maps from the published seat layout joined with per-seat availability. Pages embed no wall-clock "now" — only absolute capture timestamps and each showing's own local start time — so a rebuild that finds an unchanged offering produces byte-identical pages. Open Theatre Seats treats the data as proprietary: it carries no open licence, and the bundled API key belongs to Cineplex.
